Mission
The Iona-McGregor Fire Protection and Rescue Service District strives to provide the highest level of fire prevention and emergency services possible within the limits of fiscal responsibility, and to act with integrity, compassion, and valor in the finest traditions of the fire service.
It's Brush Fire Season and we are in for a serious fight against the elements.
The District recently put into service a new jet boat, Iona 70 - The John Becker. Lieutenant Becker worked at Iona-McGregor Fire District, but tragically passed away in 2005 from ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. He loved to dive and was an avid boater. The boat was purchased used and in need of major work that was completely done by our in-house mechanics and boat team personnel. This is a picture of the day it was christened. Some statistics about the boat are:
* 32 feet long * 9.5 tons - more than 18,000 lbs. * 550 Hp jet-drive propulsion system which drafts about 2' of water
* 1,250 gpm firefighting capability * All weather capacity * 3-position rear crane for water rescues
* 250+ miles capable at cruise speed * Side scan sonar * Advance Life Support (ALS) capable
* Interior air conditioning * Night capable, 4-1000 watt flood lights and 4-12 volt spots/floods
* Able to work 2 dive missions at the same time * 140 gallon gas tank * The largest water operations fire/resuce vessel in 3 counties
